Preface
The querent was a young man who had recently begun taking his health seriously. He changed his diet, cut out unhealthy foods, and started taking vitamins and dietary supplements. His overall condition improved considerably, yet one problem remained: he was constantly low on energy. It seemed as though his strength never accumulated but simply vanished somewhere.
He therefore asked where his energy was going and why he was always running low on it.
The Querent and the Quesited
The querent is represented by Conjunctio in the first house—B Mercury in f Virgo.
The quesited is Albus in the second house—B Mercury in c Gemini. In this chart, Albus signifies the querent’s smart devices. The reasons for this identification will become clear in the analysis.
Conjunctio and Albus occupy adjacent houses, belong to the same planet, and share the same top line. They therefore form both planetary and head companies.
Their reception produces:
- Conjunctio + Albus = Rubeus
The central answer of the chart is contained in this equation.
Analysis
An Excess of B Mercury
The first house is B Mercury’s house of joy. Conjunctio here describes someone who takes pleasure in remaining connected to Mercurial things.
Conjunctio corresponds to B Mercury in f Virgo—the sign in which B Mercury is simultaneously in its own domicile and exaltation. These dignities describe not only the querent’s abilities but also his attitude toward everything Mercurial.
Domicile shows that he rules these things, handles them freely, and uses them with confidence. Exaltation shows that he elevates them above their proper measure, places an unusually high value on them, and takes particular pleasure in interacting with them.
This applies directly to Albus. The querent did not merely use smart devices when necessary. He loved them, kept them close at hand, and spent a substantial part of his free time with them.
Albus signifies whiteness, purity, clarity, calm, tranquility, and an undisturbed mind. One might expect the interaction of the two figures of B Mercury to strengthen these qualities.
Instead, it produces the opposite result:
- Conjunctio + Albus = Rubeus
Calm becomes agitation, tranquility becomes unrest, clarity becomes confusion, and mental mobility becomes an inability to stop the flow of thoughts and impressions.
Conjunctio shows the querent joining himself to Albus. Since both figures belong to B Mercury, the connection creates an excess of the same essence. Rather than strengthening the best qualities of Albus, it reverses them.
The result is Rubeus—F Mars in h Scorpio—signifying inner tension, anger, violence, danger, and intense emotional and sexual excitement.
Smart Devices
Albus occupies the second house, which signifies the querent’s personal movable property.
B Mercury rules communication, the transmission of information, speech, writing, calculation, and devices that reproduce these functions. Here, Albus signified the querent’s smartphone, television, headphones, smartwatch, and other smart devices.
The name Albus literally means “White,” which also describes the bright light of a glowing screen.
Further questioning revealed that the querent almost always used these devices immediately before sleep. He watched short videos, scrolled through social media, read the news, listened through headphones, and often fell asleep with his phone or television still on. He did not use night mode and usually kept the screen brightness high.
The chart depicts the situation almost literally:
- Conjunctio—constant connection;
- Albus—the querent’s Mercurial devices.
A bright screen before bed interferes with the body’s natural transition into sleep. Yet the light itself is only part of the problem. Rapidly changing images, voices, and emotional stimuli keep the mind active precisely when that activity should be fading.
Lowering the brightness or using a warmer screen setting reduces only part of the effect. It does not stop the stream of information or the anticipation of the next video, message, or impression.
Double-Bodied, Common, and Loud-Voiced Signs
f Virgo and c Gemini are both double-bodied and common, or mutable, signs.
Their double-bodied nature indicates plurality. There was not just one device: the querent used a smartphone, television, headphones, smartwatch, and other technology.
Their common nature signifies transition and a continual change of states. The querent moved constantly from one activity to another—from reading to watching, from images to sound, and from one device to the next. His attention never remained in a single mode long enough to settle.
f Virgo and c Gemini are also loud-voiced signs. This points to the auditory side of the experience—speech, voices, music, television, videos, and sound through headphones.
The querent went to bed, but his B Mercury continued seeing, listening, comparing, and connecting impressions. The clear and peaceful state of Albus was transformed into the agitation of Rubeus.
An Enormous Stream of Entertainment Content
Populus in the third house signifies the social media content the querent was viewing.
It forms company with another Populus, and their reception produces the same figure:
- Populus + Populus = Populus
Multiplicity joins multiplicity and once again produces multiplicity. This shows the enormous volume of content—an endless feed of short videos replacing one another.
In reality, the querent spent hours watching YouTube Shorts and Instagram Reels.
Populus in the fifth house specifies the nature of this material. The fifth house signifies pleasure, leisure, and entertainment. The querent was therefore consuming an enormous amount of entertainment content immediately before sleep.
Violent Dreams and Their Physical Effects
Rubeus occupies the ninth house—the house of dreams and visions. The same figure appears as both Witnesses, so its testimony is emphasized throughout the chart.
Seeing such a powerful Rubeus directly in the house of dreams, I asked the querent whether he experienced any problems while sleeping.
He replied that the problems were indeed serious.
He frequently had violent and sexual nightmares. People were chased, beaten, or killed; wars, fires, explosions, and other dangerous events unfolded around him.
According to his wife, his entire body would sometimes go into involuntary convulsions while he slept. He also spoke in an anxious or aggressive tone, jerked, swung his arms, and occasionally acted out the events of his dreams physically. On one occasion, he struck his wife so hard in the face that he had to spend a long time apologizing after he woke.
Rubeus in the ninth house described the Martial content of his dreams literally—violence, danger, fire, sexual excitement, blows, and physical struggle.
Talking in His Sleep
Rubeus corresponds to h Scorpio, while Populus corresponds to d Cancer. Both are mute signs. They describe the dreams themselves and their physical manifestations, but not speech.
The dream, however, was not speaking. The querent was.
He is represented by Conjunctio—B Mercury in loud-voiced f Virgo—in company with Albus—B Mercury in loud-voiced c Gemini.
The querent therefore not only experienced disturbing dreams but spoke their contents aloud. Alongside the nightmares, convulsions, and physical struggle, this precise correspondence further confirms the radicality of the chart.
The E Moon as a Mirror of F Mars
Populus appears six times in the chart and occupies positions both below and above the horizon. Fortuna Major—the figure of the daytime A Sun—is entirely absent. This is clearly a nocturnal chart dominated by an exceptionally strong lunar influence.
Rubeus in the ninth house is flanked by Populus on both sides:
- VIII— Populus;
- IX— Rubeus;
- X— Populus.
It also forms a head company with Populus in the tenth house.
The E Moon produces no light of its own. It receives and reflects the light of another source. Populus acts in much the same way: it receives the nature of the neighboring figure, repeats it, and spreads it.
The reception confirms this:
- Rubeus + Populus = Rubeus
Populus does not soften the Martial agitation. It returns the same Rubeus, but stronger—amplified through repetition and multiplication.
The impressions received before sleep continued after the querent had fallen asleep. The E Moon reflected them through his dreams, but their content had already been colored by Rubeus: conflict became a fight, an alarming news story became a catastrophe, fire became a raging blaze, and danger became pursuit.
Material absorbed shortly before sleep can enter later dreams. Here, the chart not only showed the continuation of those impressions but identified the exact form they would take.
F Mars in Full Hayz
Rubeus corresponds to F Mars in h Scorpio.
The chart is nocturnal, F Mars is a nocturnal planet, h Scorpio is a nocturnal sign, and the ninth house is above the horizon. F Mars is therefore in full hayz.
Thus, we are dealing with an extraordinarily powerful F Mars, able to manifest the full force of its nature without restraint.
Here, that strength manifests in the house of dreams—through violent imagery, intense inner agitation, blows, convulsions, and the physical acting out of dreams.
h Scorpio is traditionally classified as a gloomy, restless, violent, and convulsive sign. Its convulsive quality manifests through its interaction with the E Moon. Traditional astrologers describe this connection as follows:
When L Saturn by day and F Mars by night dispose of B Mercury and the E Moon, these configurations together make a person epileptic.

The geomantic chart gives the same testimony through the company of Rubeus and Populus. In reality, the querent’s wife had witnessed involuntary convulsions throughout his body while he slept.
The Witnesses and the Judge
Both Witnesses are Rubeus, while the Judge is Populus:
- Rubeus + Rubeus = Populus
The traditional meanings of this combination include war, bloodshed, fire, and numerous calamities.
In the context of the question, it describes many disturbed nights, repeated nightmares, convulsions, and dreams of war, murder, fires, and explosions.
Populus as the Judge also answers the word “always” in the querent’s question. This was not an isolated episode but a process repeated night after night.
Where His Energy Was Going
Instead of resting, the querent’s body continued through the night to experience powerful emotions, create intense images, tense its muscles, speak, jerk, and fight.
Sleep did not end his daytime activity. It transferred that activity from the conscious realm of B Mercury into the lunar realm of the body and dreams.
Using electronic devices late in the evening can delay sleep and diminish its quality. A person may spend enough hours in bed and still fail to recover properly, especially when the mind continues processing emotionally charged material.
That was what happened here. The querent went to bed, but his mind did not stop working. The resulting agitation continued through his dreams and physical reactions.
That was where his energy was going.
Judgment
The querent spent hours watching YouTube Shorts and Instagram Reels immediately before sleep while moving between several electronic devices. Bright screens, sound, and the endless succession of short videos prevented his mind from settling.
The agitation continued after he fell asleep and manifested as nightmares, talking, convulsions, blows, and the physical acting out of dreams.
As a result, his sleep did not restore his strength. His body continued working and spending energy throughout the night, leaving him exhausted in the morning despite his improved diet and vitamin regimen.
Outcome
The Reconciler is the sixteenth figure of the chart. It is produced from the figure of the querent and the Judge and shows how the final judgment connects back to the querent—how he understands the answer and what practical result follows from it.
In this chart:
- Conjunctio + Populus = Conjunctio
The chart begins with Conjunctio and ends with the same figure.
After receiving the judgment, the querent connected—that is, he linked—his habit of using smart devices before sleep with his disturbed nights and the constant drain on his energy.
He lowered the brightness of his smartphone and stopped falling asleep with his phone or television still on. He did not, however, completely stop using smart devices before bed.
Conjunctio signifies connection rather than separation. The querent recognized the causal connection and changed some of his habits, yet his connection with the devices remained.
This is precisely what the Reconciler showed.
Lesson
Conjunctio and Albus can signify many other things.
Determining their specific meaning by mechanically running through every possible option would have been extremely difficult and ultimately pointless. Rather than guessing and wasting time, it was faster and more useful to ask the querent and clarify the circumstances.
There is no reason to be afraid of questioning the querent. The practitioner may not appear to be an all-knowing oracle who needs only one glance at the chart to uncover the entire truth. At least he will not make a fool of himself by confidently telling someone about things that do not actually exist.
Accuracy of judgment matters more than a theatrical display of omniscience.
